It is sad and frightening to think that in a time of greatest need, perhaps fighting for your life against cancer or some equally insidious disease, that one should also have to rally the energy to fight the insurance companies as well. But all too often, this is the case. Private insurance companies have the power to deny your claim for a multitude of reasons, some of them seemingly totally unjustified. For many, the battle to save their own lives is spent in court in an effort to force the insurance companies to pay their claims, depsite having paid their premium diligently for however long the policy was in effect. What is the point of paying for insurance if it will not pay a claim without a huge legal battle, or even a minor struggle? Shouldn’t we be getting what we pay for?
