While many are catagorizing the 2008 election as the US Youth Vote, there is still a powerful contengent of seniors, especially in Florida. Florida boasts the highest percentage of seniors of any state, and therefore candidates are focusing on issues of healthcare and retirement trying to capture the senior vote. The AARP has spent the last two years on a campaign of their own, known as “Divided We Fail.” This initiative is focused on transcending political lines and working to achieve healthcare and financial security for all Americans. While both candidates have endorsed the movement, it still seems that they are more concerned with winning the election than with making improvements. With the lack of healthcare being the biggest cause of bankruptcy and the fact that it leads to death for many others, will our next president really be willing to work to make a difference and change this situation for the better?
