McCain has attacked Obama’s proposed health care reform plans saying that they would be “run by the government.” In Obama’s defense, his plan would allow people several options including remaining on their current plan, seeking out a private plan, or aquiring a government sponsored plan. While the government would play a greater role in health care under Obama’s plan, it does not resemble the type of universal health care present in some European countries. Under McCain’s plan, health care would be almost solely built on the free market, as people would be given a tax credit and encouraged to seek out their own plan, as employer provided coverage would be taxable for the first time. Do you think Americans on the whole are more in favor of government involvement in our health care system?

Obama’s plan needs some editing. People aren’t going to get coverage until the have a medical emergency making premiums high and the insurance industry unstable. To balance it, health insurace should either be mandated or there should be a monthly penalty like how Medicare does for not not signing up for a plan when your first eligible to. People who wait to purchase coverage until they have a medical emergency should be penalized.
