Obama has warned state governors that hard choices are ahead as difficult economic times are resulting in major cutbacks in many areas of public spending. Among the federally funded programs to face decreases are Medicaid and Medicare, which will be a big blow to the many people currently unemployed and forced to seek healthcare through publicly funded programs such as these. In Florida, 1 million people applied for unemployment in October alone, and 100,000 applied for food stamps last year. As unemployment rises, and fewer tax dollars are alloted to federally funded health care programs, what affect is this going to have on Floridians, both in the long and short term? What other options will people have? How will this affect emergency rooms and the like?
