Florida Health Insurance News Update

Miami, Florida — The FBI recently charged a 72-year-old man for fraudulent health insurance claims. It looks like Mr. Richard Montgomery took Blue Cross of Florida for nearly 800,000. His crime will not go unpunished. He was sentenced to 51 months in prison this afternoon.

His conviction was based on conspiring to commit health care fraud, mail fraud and violating Medicare’s statue against kickbacks. It is amazing that people still get away with this this type of while collar crime these days. How do you think he was able to get away with stealing that much money for so long? His luck has now turned…. Guess it good to always play by the rules. Please give us your thoughts to this crazy event.

If he was really that smart though he should have said enough is enough and headed out of the country. I am suprised he only got 51 months, maybe they felt bad because he was so old.

  2. Bonnie Says:

How on earth DID he get away with it for so long?

  3. KMM Says:

Smart guy! Forget about talking further about the thief, how about the dumb insurance company?

  4. Johnson Says:

Yeah, he should have totally worked the system a bit longer. Wonder how many other scams this guy came up with for the last 50 or so years.

  5. Coverage Point Says:

People like this are the reason why health insurance premiums are so expensive.

  6. Dave Aux Says:

I bet he spent it all on suppliments and adult diapers.

    As the full artivle stated:

“Montgomery and his daughter, Patricia Sittloh, owned Southern Medical Devices, a Florida-based company that offered testing services. The company from 1992 to 1993 paid more than $459,000 in kickbacks or referral fees to Michigan chiropractors in exchange for referring patients for testing, according to the press release.

Each test resulted in a $2,400 insurance claim. The FBI investigated the incidents.

Montgomery’s daughter pleaded guilty to the same conspiracy charge as her father and was sentenced to 15 months in prison, according to the press release.”

Plain old thievery and fraud. Nothing to do with Florida healthcare. Dishonest Michigan chiropractors to boot. The deals went down 15 years ago. Looks more like a law enforment cold case file solved.

if you think this is bad?? I think we all should be taking a look at the kickbacks within free prescriptions offered with health plans during a special period of time OR stores like walmart offering free prescriptions.
