Florida Health Insurance Monopoly?

Consumers almost have no breathing room in this land of inflated premiums. Aetna and Blue Cross and Blue Shield, which are based out of Jacksonville, own almost 45% of the Floridaâ??s market. They can â??reap oversized profits and raise premiums with impunity,â? Health Care for America Now had stated in a recent report. As a health reform advocacy group, Health Care for America Now called for a US Justice Department investigation on the market. They hope to have the unfair practices of business thrown out of the almost-monopolized industry. Our President has proposed a new public healthcare to compete with the private companies, a proposal well backed by advocacy groups such as Health Care for America Now. Seeing as how this plan has not gone into effect yet Florida familyâ??s average annual health insurance premium is at an unbelievable $11,720.
