Florida County Uncovers a Number of Costly Problems

Manatee County discovered recently through a university study that a number of organizations involved in health care should get together and share information to potentially fix some of the problems inherent in the health care industry. Among their findings was the fact that far too many people use the emergency room for non-emergency treatments, most often because they do not have insurance. It would be less costly for the government to cover these people and allow them to seek treatment through a physician rather than drive up costs via the emergency room. However, this leads to the second problem found: that far too many people actually qualify for assistance through government programs, but are either unaware of them, or don’t know how to sign up. Another problem discovered was that a lack of communication among providers often leads to duplicate treatments, another reason costs are driven higher. What are some solutions for these problems?
